My name is Catherine Pyfrom. I was born, raised, and lived in the Bahamas for most of my life! My interest in art started at age five when I would draw family portraits. I was always colouring and creating as a child. I’m told I showed natural ability long before receiving art instruction. In high school, my teacher would often hand over the lesson to me to teach the class when she had other things to do.
I attended Mount Vernon College (now George Washington University) in Washington DC, where I received a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design and Fine Arts. I held my first solo, and very successful, show in Nassau, Bahamas at age 25. Throughout my career, I have also held positions as an office manager at an insurance company and an office supply retail store while continuing my passion for art.
In 2007, I met my wife and, together, we have an 11 year old daughter who also loves art. I am a life-long conchologist and thalassophile!
Always the sentimental type, I was able to hold on to photos or originals of many of my art pieces over the years. Sadly, in 2019, my home in the Bahamas was destroyed by Hurricane Dorian and I lost almost all of my portfolio. As a result of the storm, my family and I moved to New Brunswick later that same year.
In the last four years, I spent time reflecting on loss and renewal. Our international move allowed me to have an improved studio space and I’ve been rebuilding my portfolio with new inspirations and techniques.
